When done on a regular basis, a dissolved gas analysis present in your transformer’s oil will give you more than an insight in what is going on inside!

A major fault will increase gas production in a manner that it will be detected by a Buchholz relay, but when it passes undetected, it gets enough time to dissolve into the oil.

Dissolved gas analysis is the best non - invasive method to get great insight at how your transformer ages. Hot spots and insulation degradation are only examples of the problems that could be detected by such an analysis.
